Mac App Store and REAL Studio

Last month, Apple announced a Mac app store that will make it quick and easy for end users to purchase and install Mac apps. This is pretty neat, but it does open a lot of questions, many of which are not yet answered.

For starters, will REAL Studio applications be accepted, in general?

I suspect the answer will be yes, but we just don’t know yet. If you’re willing to gamble a bit, then you’ll need to pony up for the $99 yearly subscription to join the Mac Developer Program.

State of Cocoa

REAL Studio 2010 Release 4 was recently released, so I thought it would be a good time to revisit my current projects to see how they fare when build for Cocoa. The results were not good, I’m afraid.

Wow! REAL Studio Web Edition!

I don’t think many people saw this coming. With all that REAL has been working on lately (Cocoa, LLVM), it hardly seems like they’ve had enough time to also roll out a new product. But today, REAL Software announced REAL Studio Web Edition (RSW), a new product that will be shipping sometime in the fall.

REAL Studio Q&A Site

A little while ago there was some discussion on the REAL Software forums about creating a StackOverflow StackExchange to supplement the forums.

I always liked StackOverflow/StackExchange and think it’s a good way to ask and get answers to questions. But until today, StackExchange was pretty expensive (hundreds of dollars a month). Alas, even though StackExchange will now be free, the free version is not yet up and running. And even then, new sites have to go through a fairly lengthy approval process before they can go live.

After looking into this a bit I stumbled across a site called Shapado, which is essentially an open-source clone of StackOverflow/StackExchange. And they allow you to create new sites for free!
