@Thomas: I fixed the chart error and other typos.

A bundle with Macs, PCs and Linux likely won't happen but it would be cool. I thought Ubuntu does bundle some closed-source software (like Flash), but I could be wrong about that. I don't use it much.

Macs used to come with free games and utilities, but I don't know if they still do. I got Comic Life, GraphicConverter and Nanosaur included with an iMac purchased a while ago.

RS does still offer the Linux version for free if you're doing open-source development, but I also wonder why that changed.

I agree that RS should make more of an effort to convince people that RB is a viable dev system, e.g. by offering a free version that can only run in the IDE/debugger.

The thought of having it bundled with Macs, PCs and Linux is utopical, though - this won't ever happen. Linux distros won't bundle anything closed-source, and Apple won't bundle it either, just as they do not bundle many other "nice to have" apps. And RB is only a niche marked compared to the "iLife" type apps Apple likes to bundle, anyway.

But I hope RS (Geoff) reads your article and that you give me some encouragement to dare releasing a free version.

I would also like to know why RS is not offering a free Linux version any more. Did they find that no one wants it, anyway, or did they find that it damages their business?

You're right. Although it does appear that the name change to REAL Studio did confuse things for me.

My shortcut for REALbasic 2009 Release 5.1 stopped working with REAL Studio 2010 Release 1. I mistakenly attributed this to the app name rather than an apparent change to the bundle identifier.

Since OS 10.5 I've been using this to change several shortcuts in the RB IDE, such as for stepping during debugging. And I never had to update them if I installed a new RB version. Apparently, the features does NOT store the app's name but instead uses the app's bundle ID, which doesn't change. In the 10.6.2's kbd settings panel I can even see that it does not refer to the IDE's app name but to "com.realsoftware.realstudio" - which is probably a little bug in the new IDE as to not store the App name in it properly.

@Jared: The new mic (a Blue Snowball) is being used for the 2nd podcast, which should be up by tomorrow.

You also should be able to search iTunes for REALbasic to find the RBDevZone podcast. According to Apple, it takes up to 5 days before new podcasts show up in search results.

For now, the extent of my show notes are the links that appear when listening to the podcast in iTunes.

I think this is a great idea for a podcast.

I second the better mic suggestion.

You should also add "The Realbasic Resource" to the show title in iTunes so people can search for "Realbasic" and find this podcast.

Also, show notes would be nice :-)

Video is not needed in my opinion.

Thanks.
